Hunting Whitetails in Their Natural Element

Our whitetail deer hunts take place just outside of Dillon, Montana. In this area, there are four agricultural pivots as well as the largest bedding area in the immediate vicinity, consisting of willows and cottonwood trees. This area has good water and a partial wetland, making it even more enticing for the whitetails.

In this location, we utilize both ground and elevated blinds in and around the agricultural pivots and along game trails to and from bedding and feeding areas. This method is designed to be as low impact as possible, ensuring that established deer behavior and travel routes remain undisturbed. This approach has consistently proven successful for both archery and rifle hunts. Occasionally, during the rut, a particular buck may separate from the herd to move a doe away from competition. When this occurs, we sometimes employ spot-and-stalk hunting to target these elusive bucks.

There is excellent visibility in this area, and hunters are often surprised by the sheer number of whitetail deer they see moving from cover into open feeding areas. The deer population is strong, and harvest numbers are carefully managed under a quota system to maintain herd quality.

This is truly a unique and rewarding experience, not only because of the high deer numbers but also due to the impressive buck-to-doe ratio on the property. It’s a must-hunt for whitetail enthusiasts looking for a high-success, fair-chase adventure.

Note to Rifle Hunters:

To further reduce the impact on whitetail deer, all rifles used on our hunts must be equipped with suppressors. If you do not own a suppressor, we highly recommend purchasing one. However, if that is not an option in your state, we will gladly provide a suppressed rifle for your hunt. Before heading into the field, you will have the opportunity to practice with the rifle on our range, allowing you to get comfortable with it and gain confidence in your shooting.

Using suppressed rifles offers several key benefits:

  • Reduces Noise Disturbance: Suppressors significantly lower the sound signature, minimizing the chance of spooking game.
  • Less Recoil: Compared to muzzle brakes, suppressors greatly reduce recoil, helping hunters stay on target and eliminate flinching.
  • Improved Communication: The reduced noise allows for better coordination between hunter and guide, ensuring a more efficient and effective hunt.
  • Faster Follow-Up Shots: The ability to quickly react after the first shot increases success rates in the field.

At Walker Outfitting, we want every hunter to be fully prepared and confident when taking their shot, and providing suppressors is just one way we ensure the best possible hunting experience.
